At the narrowest point of Calabria, the distance between the two seas that border the region is only about 50 km.<\/p>\n
By car, the two coasts are connected by a four-lane highway. But that’s not the route we’re talking about here. Instead, we’ll follow the Kalabria Coast to Coast<\/strong>, a hiking trail that crosses the region on foot.<\/p>\n The adventure begins on the Ionian coast, in the seaside town of Soverato<\/strong>. This is the coast facing Greece, making it easy to picture its location.<\/p>\n Soverato boasts a wide, beautiful sandy beach. The trail starts on the seafront promenade before following the shoreline, almost with your feet in the water.<\/p>\n The route then continues alongside the road. While this isn’t the most scenic section, it is flat and provides the perfect warm-up before the climb begins.<\/p>\n After 13 km, you reach Petrizzi<\/strong>, the first stop on the trail. This small, charming village offers a warm welcome. A stop at the local caf\u00e9 is a must, not only to enjoy a well-earned drink, but also to have your hiking passport stamped.<\/p>\n By now, the Ionian Sea<\/strong> is behind you, and you’re heading towards the Tyrrhenian Sea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Leaving Petrizzi, the trail crosses the picturesque village of San Vito sullo Ionio<\/strong>, then passes Lake Acero<\/strong> and enters a magnificent beech forest. Cool, peaceful, and refreshing, it offers a welcome break before you arrive in Monterosso Calabro<\/strong>, where you’ll spend the night.<\/p>\n The third stage takes you through the WWF-protected Lake Angitola Nature Reserve<\/strong> before reaching Pizzo<\/strong>. Pizzo and its castle are closely linked to French history. You’ll discover a delightful seaside town perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea. It’s also the birthplace of Calabria’s most famous artisan ice cream: the Tartufo di Pizzo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Kalabria Coast to Coast is a truly unique hiking route.
